Jesse Lingard shares social media post after snub vs Brentford

He was denied a farewell appearance at Old Trafford.

Jesse Lingard looks set to leave Manchester United at the end of the season, after a very disappointing season on a personal level.

Lingard spent the second half of last season on loan at West Ham, where he was genuinely one of the best players in the league, and looked certain to join the club permanently in the summer.

Instead he stuck around at United for this season, where he has ran down his contract while sitting on the bench.

He has done this while West Ham have had yet another brilliant league campaign, and are in the semi-final of the Europa League.

He has since taken to social media to share his thoughts after he failed to come on against Brentford on Monday night.

Given it seems likely that Lingard has played his final game for the club, it would have made sense for Ralf Rangnick to have awarded him the chance to say goodbye to the Old Trafford faithful.

Instead, he sat on the bench, while Phil Jones, Edinson Cavani and Fred came on instead of him.

Lingard will be particularly annoyed that Cavani came on, given he also looks to be leaving in a few weeks, and he has nowhere near the same history as the Englishman.

In a Tweet posted on Tuesday night, Lingard shared an image of him at Man United when he was a child, looking confused.

The image has been perceived as him being confused by not being given the chance to say goodbye, while others believe it is just him showing how long he has been at the club.

This comes after his brother took to social media to tear into the club for their behaviour.

He wrote: “20 years of blood sweat and tears, 4 domestic trophies, 3 cup final goals, not even a farewell. No wonder it’s Conference League next year,” the 29-year-old’s brother Louie Scott posted on Instagram after the 3-0 win.

“Been there since nine years of age and didn’t even get a send off! Well done bro your family are proud.”
