Harsh, or has he got a point?

Gary Neville took issue with Jamie Carragher’s controversial view on Marcus Rashford, and his role at Manchester United going forward.

Speaking about the future of United, under Erik ten Hag, Neville said that Rashford is someone that the new manager will look forward to working with.

Rashford had a poor season over the past 12 months, including a disappointing Euro 2020 last summer, but Neville has backed him to get things back on track under the new manager.

However, Carragher insisted that Rashford isn’t good enough to play for United, something which Neville clearly disagreed with.

The former Liverpool man defiantly said: “He’s just not quite good enough for Manchester United, that’s all it is. That’s it. He’s not quite good enough for Man United.

When Neville pointed out that Liverpool recently won the Champions League with Divock Origi and Xherdan Shaqiri in their squad, and that Rashford is at least on the same level as them.

“They’re not… I’m talking about the first XI. Is he a squad player?

“Fine then, he can be a squad player. He’s not good enough to be in the first XI to win Manchester United the big trophies. He’s a level below that.”

United fans will likely be quite divided on Rashford, with many holding on to the player he was just over a years ago.

Given he came through the academy and has given the United fans a lot of brilliant memories over the past few years, one would think that he has enough good will built up to be given a second chance.
