More positive than you would think…

Former Ireland striker Clinton Morrison has honestly assessed Jack Grealish’s season at Manchester City.

Grealish became the most expensive British player of all time last summer, with City signing him from Aston Villa for £100 million.

It’s safe to say the season hasn’t gone as expected, with the England international failing to match the type of performances he put in for Villa.

In the majority of City’s biggest games of the season, Grealish has been on the bench, and in a lot of them he hasn’t even touched the pitch.

However, Morrison believes that things will improve for him next season, after a disappointing first year.

Speaking on Sunday, he said: “I don’t think he’ll be too happy, but he hasn’t been given too many opportunities. I think when Jack has been given opportunities, he has done well.

“He will want more assists and goals, we know what he’s like. He has to stay out wide on the left and cause problems. We’ll see the best out of him next season. He’s a superb talent.”

Paul Merson agreed that Grealish will be immense next season, insisting he will score far more goals than he did this year.

Morrison went on to grade Grealish’s season, giving him a C+ for his efforts, much to the delight of Jeff Stelling and the rest of the team in the studio.

There is a trend of Pep Guardiola signings improving in their second season, but you would have to argue that a player brought in for £100 million should really be making an instant impact.

Grealish scored a crucial goal against West Ham last week, which he will be hoping is a sign of things to come for him going forward.
