Ireland underage duo targeted by Serie A side Verona

Ireland  underage internationals Cathal Heffernan and Kevin Zefi are wanted by Serie A club Hellas Verona.

Serie A side Hellas Verona are interested in bringing Ireland under-19 internationals Cathal Heffernan and Kevin Zefi to the football club, according to the Irish Examiner.

Heffernan is currently on the books of AC Milan after signing from Cork City in February 2022, while Zefi joined Inter Milan from Shamrock Rovers in the summer of 2021.

Zefi and Heffernan linked with Verona.

Heffernan is a centre-back who has played most of his football for AC Milan’s under-18 side since joining.

Zefi plays as a winger and scored 16 goals in 13 under-18 matches last season. Despite this, however, he has found appearances for Inter’s under-19 side difficult to come by.

The two Irish teenagers have struck up a good friendship since moving to Milan and it is now believed that they could both complete transfers to Serie A opponents Hellas Verona in the coming weeks.

Omobamidele.

Elsewhere, it is widely reported that AC Milan have restated their interest in Republic of Ireland centre-back Andrew Omobamidele.

The 21-year-old captained Norwich City at the end of last season and despite his injury issues, already has six international caps to this name.

A stumbling block to the transfer could be the Canaries’ asking price of £15 million, however. That’s according to Italian outlet Sport Mediaset who say Omobamidele is being eyed as a potential replacement for the departing Simon Kjaer and Matteo Gabbia.

Norwich chief Stuart Weber recently said that the football club rejected a record fee for the Leixlip native back in January, explaining: “We turned down an offer in January for Andrew Omobamidele which was bigger than what we sold Ben Godfrey for to Everton.”
