Ireland U21 midfielder Killian Phillips wanted by Aberdeen

Aberdeen are reportedly interested in Ireland U21 midfielder Killian Phillips.

Ireland under-21 midfielder Killian Phillips could be set to spend next season on loan with Aberdeen in the Scottish Premiership.

The 21-year-old is on the books of Premier League regulars Crystal Palace but spent last season on loan with League One’s Shrewsbury Town where he won their Young Player of the Season prize despite only joining in January.

Phillips is a robust midfielder who is thought to have the physical attributes required to make it in the Premier League, but it now appears he will have to prove himself in Scotland before being given that chance.

The Dubliner joined Palace from Drogheda United last summer after impressing in the League of Ireland for the Louth outfit.

Killian Phillips linked with Aberdeen.

Journalist Alan Nixon does however report that Palace will only sanction a loan move if Phillips signs a new contract with them first.

That’s because his current deal with the Eagles expires next summer and losing the 21-year-old on a free would be a misstep from the Selhurst Park club.

Should Phillips spent the season on loan at Aberdeen, he would become teammates with former Ireland international Jonny Hayes and could soon be joined by Ireland squad member Liam Scales.

Scales spent last season on loan with the Dons from Celtic but could be allowed to join them permanently this summer if the move makes sense for all parties.

In other Irish transfer news, Phillip’s former Ireland under-21 teammate Conor Noss has joined Austrian Bundesliga club Blau-Weiß Linz from Borussia Monchengladbach.

The 22-year-old midfielder’s move comes after a busy few days of transfer activity for Irish youngsters.

Former West Ham academy striker Mipo Odubeko has joined Portuguese second division side Maritimo, former Manchester United academy winger Deji Sotona has signed for League Two Doncaster and Matt Healy has left Ipswich Town to join Belgian second tier club Royal Francs Borains.
