Shane Long Ruled Out Of Ireland Qualifiers With Hamstring Injury

He hit form at the end of the Premier League season.

Shane Long will play no part in the Republic of Ireland’s upcoming Euro 2020 qualifiers.

The Southampton striker has been ruled out of the games with Denmark and Gibraltar after picking up a hamstring injury in training. The FAI announced the news on Monday afternoon.

Long was in a rich spell of form with Southampton in the final weeks of the Premier League season – when he scored the fastest goal in the league’s history after seven seconds against Watford.

The striker has scored 17 goals in 82 games for Ireland but has yet to appear under Mick McCarthy. He was also forced to pull out of the national team squad in March due to an injury.
