Long was in a rich spell of form with Southampton in the final weeks of the Premier League season – when he scored the fastest goal in the league’s history after seven seconds against Watford.
The striker has scored 17 goals in 82 games for Ireland but has yet to appear under Mick McCarthy. He was also forced to pull out of the national team squad in March due to an injury.
