Peter Schmeichel Offers Damning Assessment Of Ireland Team

Peter Schmeichel has predicted that Switzerland will beat Ireland on Tuesday night because Mick McCarthy’s team are “so bad.

Ireland play the Swiss in Geneva on Tuesday night knowing that, if they win the game, they will qualify for Euro 2020.

However, considering they failed to beat Georgia, who are ranked 91st in the world, on Saturday, McCarthy’s side may struggle against the top seeds in Group D.

Switzerland lost 1-0 to Denmark in Copenhagen on Saturday evening. But Schmeichel has tipped them to bounce back with a victory over Ireland.

The former Manchester United goalkeeper was at the game between Switzerland and Denmark and offered a damning assessment of the Boys in Green.

“Switzerland will win against Ireland,” Schmeichel said to Yann Somer, the Swiss goalkeeper.

“I have seen Ireland play and they are so bad. Switzerland can take a lot of positives from their performance in Copenhagen.

“They have some really talented players. If they play like that against Ireland, the win will come.”

Schmeichel’s son Kasper made a string of brilliant saves in the game between Switzerland and Denmark, helping the Danes earn a valuable victory in Group D.

Yussuf Poulsen got the only goal of the game five-minutes from full-time after being played in on goal after a brilliant pass from Christian Eriksen.

Even if Ireland fail to beat Switzerland on Tuesday, they will have another chance to qualify when they play Denmark on November 18 in Dublin.

McCarthy’s side must win one of their two remaining games after failing to beat Georgia on Saturday.
