Stunning Salah Goal Seals Liverpool’s Place In The Champions League Knockout Stages

Liverpool are safely through to the knockout stages of the Champions League after a 2-0 victory over Red Bull Salzburg.

Naby Keita and Mohamed Salah got the goals for Jurgen Klopp’s side as they navigated a tricky tie in Austria.

Both sides had plenty of opportunities to find the net in an action-packed game that will be remembered for a stunning goal by Salah in the second half.

The Egyptian missed several routine goal scoring chances in the game, especially in a frustrating first-half when it appeared as though he had left his shooting boots at Anfield.

Yet, Salah showed his class and somehow scored with his most difficult attempt of the night.

In the 58th minute, just a minute after Naby Keita had given Liverpool the lead, Jordan Henderson played a long punt down the pitch towards Salah. Jerome Onguene under-hit his pass back to goalkeeper Cican Stankovic, who gambled and tried to close down the Liverpool forward at the edge of the penalty area.

Salah took a touch past him with his weaker right foot, another touch to settle himself and then clipped the ball into the net from an acute angle at the edge of the box. It was a stunning goal, even more so considering the significantly easier chances Salah had missed earlier in the game.

Just before that incredible goal, some excellent work from Sadio Mane set up Keita to open the deadlock at the Red Bull Arena.

Those goals ensured that the European champions top the group with 13 points.

Napoli secured second place with a 4-0 win over bottom team Genk and Salzberg have dropped into the Europa League.
