Caoimhin Kelleher and Troy Parrott, two of Ireland’s most promising young players, could be set for their first-team debuts this week.
Kelleher could start in goal for Liverpool in their EFL Cup tie away to MK Dons on Wednesday night, while Parrott looks set to be involved for Tottenham Hotspur in their cup tie against Colchester United on Tuesday.
Ireland Under-21 goalkeeper Kelleher has been on the bench several times for Jurgen Klopp’s side this season. First-choice ‘keeper Alisson Becker is injured and Adrian has been deputising for the Brazilian.
With Liverpool set to rest most of their first-team for the game, their 20-year-old Irish goalkeeper could get his chance between the sticks against the League One side.
Meanwhile, Parrott could be about to make his debut for Spurs.
The highly-rated Dubliner, who scored three times for Ireland under-21s on international duty earlier this month, was not part of the Tottenham under-23 squad for a game against Blackburn Rovers on Monday night – which suggests he may see some playing time for the first team on Tuesday evening. Or at least be on the bench for the tie.
Parrott doesn’t turn 18 until February but has impressed the staff at Spurs and has been a key player for their reserve teams
