Manchester United faced the San Jose Earthquakes on Tuesday night and ran out eventual 3-1 winners, with Memphis Depay grabbing his first goal for the Red Devils.
Depay was in good form and capitalised on a poor mistake from the Quakes defence to put United 2-0 up before the end of the first half. In truth, it was an average goal, but to be fair to the young number nine he took his opportunity well.
Although the San Jose Earthquakes are by no means powerhouses of world football, the goal will do the Dutchman’s confidence a world of good as he looks to justify the £25 million the Old Trafford side paid for the Eredivisie’s top scorer.

Another talking point was the strong showing of Andreas Pereira. The 19-year-old came on as a second half substitute and performed brilliantly, even notching United’s third.
It’s early days, but the future is looking bright for Louis Van Gaal’s Red Army.
