We’re live at 3 HQ as we await the announcement of Mick McCarthy’s first Republic of Ireland squad in his second stint at national team manager.
We’re expecting a few wildcards, some old faces, and of course, the reliables. Stay tuned to Pundit Arena all afternoon as we deliver, predict, and analyse Mick’s first squad ahead of the games with Gibraltar and Georgia.
Here’s what Mick McCarthy had to say during his first press conference as the Republic of Ireland manager back in November.
“We’ll see if it’s a good decision to come back. I was never going to turn the chance down to manage Ireland.”
“Terry (Conor) has been with me since 2006. Robbie asked me would I consider him in a coaching role. I gave it some thought and I had to say yes. I like the idea of a young coach who’s got bright ideas. I think he’ll have a real affinity with the younger players.”
“Robbie was suggested to me by Robbie. At first, I thought you cheeky bollocks!”
