Iker Casillas conceded the first goals of his Porto career yesterday, as he looks to rebuild his reputation following some tough times at Real Madrid.
The Los Blancos legend devoted two decades to Madrid, but was frozen out in the last two seasons, ultimately leading to an acrimonious exit to Portugal.
Any genuine footballing fan of the last twenty years would undoubtedly harbour hopes of Casillas putting in an incredible shift this year and proving those at Madrid wrong by knocking them out of the Champions League.
However, it doesn’t look likely…
Porto fell to Borussia Monchengladbach 2-1 in a friendly yesterday and Casillas’ performance has to come under scrutiny. Although the first goal was a relatively sweet strike from ‘Gladbach’s new boy Lars Stindl, the concession of the second goal was questionable to say the least.
The speed (or lack thereof) with which Casillas dropped to the floor in an effort to save Ibrahima Traoré’s effort is alien to the feline reflexes that we had become accustomed to watching ‘Iker’ rise through the ranks.
There is a world of pressure on Iker Casillas’s shoulders and sadly, it looks like 2015/16 could be another tough season for the man from Madrid.
