German supporters continue to revel in their World Cup success, while taking pops at England at the same time.
As we all know, there’s no love lost between Germany and England. The two nations have had some titanic battles on the pitch, and games between the sides have always been feisty affairs.
Germany’s supporters teased England fans throughout the World Cup by singing the famous Euro ’96 England song from Baddiel & Skinner & Lightning Seeds, ‘Three Lions (Football’s Coming Home)’.
Germany beat England in the semi-final of Euro ’96 on penalties, and went on to win the tournament in the final at Wembley. Ever since then, the Germans have taken a particular liking to England’s iconic anthem and it could be heard throughout many of Der Mannschaft’s games during this summer’s World Cup.
Following their incredible success in Brazil, Joachim Loew returned to his hometown of Freiburg on Tuesday to be greeted by 3,000 screaming fans. Two months on from the World Cup, no prizes for guessing what song they’re still singing.
