Bayern Munich Meet Pope, Donate €1 Million

Fresh from their 7-1 annihilation of AS Roma on Tuesday night, Bayern Munich had a private audience with Pope Francis, where they donated €1 million to charitable causes.

Images of Bayern Munich captain Philipp Lahm and goalkeeper Manuel Neuer presenting the Pope with a Bayern Munich jersey have been tweeted by the official Bayern Munich Twitter account.

According to the FC Bayern website, Bayern Munich President Karl-Heinz Rummenigge presented the Pope with a football signed by all of the players, symbolically representing a friendly match to be played in the course of the next year.

Bayern Munich defender David Alaba couldn’t hide his delight following the meeting with Pope Francis.

Bayern face Monchengladbach in the Bundesliga on Sunday.
