Zlatan Confirms Best In MLS Status With Perfect LA Derby Hat-Trick

“By far.”

That was Swedish striker Zlatan Ibrahimovic’s response when asked whether he, at 37-years of age, was still the best player in the MLS ahead of LA Galaxy’s derby game against LAFC.

Ibrahimovic was dismissive of all pretenders to his throne including LA’s Carlos Vela, the current top goalscorer in the league as he lived up to his brash and confident moniker pre-game.

When it came to the derby itself, in typical Ibrahimovic fashion, the versatile frontman proved that he can walk the walk just as good as he can talk the talk, netting a perfect hat-trick in a 3-2 win for LA Galaxy.

Ironically enough it was actually Ibrahimovic‘s rival Carlos Vela, who the Swede had previously dismissed due to playing in the league in “his prime,” who opened the scoring for LAFC in the 4th minute.

Just four minutes later though, Ibrahimovic showed his class as he took the ball down on his chest just outside the area, flicked the ball over the defender’s head and lashed a right-footed volley into the back of the net for Galaxy’s equaliser.

The former Manchester United striker has been in stunning form for Galaxy ever since arriving from Old Trafford at the beginning of last season having scored 22 goals in the last campaign and 16 so far this year.

He gave his side the lead ten minutes into the second half, this time rising above the lone LAFC defender to power a header past a helpless Tyler Miller in goal.

Ibrahimovic then sealed the victory in the 70th minute, completing his perfect hat-trick thanks to a low-drive with his left foot from just outside the box as he solidified his status as the MLS’s best.

Vela did manage to grab one back for LAFC in the 97th minute, his 21st goal of what’s been a very impressive campaign for the former Arsenal striker, however, it was to be Ibrahimovic’s night as LA Galaxy came away with a 3-2 victory.
