West Ham United have announced the signing of Irish U17 international Ademipo ‘Mipo’ Odubeko, following the young striker’s departure from Manchester United.
Odubeko scored 35 goals for Manchester United’s academy last season and had been expected to breakthrough at the club in the next couple of seasons but rejected an offer from the Red Devils and left Old Trafford after his contract expired.
The 17-year-old who won the Victory Shield with Ireland at U16 level, will initially sign for West Ham’s U18 side as he looks to make an impact at his new club.

“It’s a really exciting day,” said Odubeko on West Ham’s website. “I’ve been waiting for this move for a while, so I’m looking forward to getting started.
“West Ham is a club with a lot of history behind it. It promotes its young players, so it’s a great opportunity for me to develop my game and help the team.
“I’m looking forward to moving to London – it’ll be a little different to Manchester, so it’s an exciting challenge. I always set high expectations for myself, so I’m looking to score a lot of goals for West Ham this season.”
West Ham’s website outlines that they fought off some of Europe’s biggest clubs for his signature, with reports last month linking him with the likes of Juventus, Bayern Munich and Borussia Dortmund.
Continuing, Odubeko outlined that he is hoping to continue his goalscoring form when he joins up with his new West Ham teammates.
“I’m a goalscorer, I’m quick, and I work hard for my team,” he said, when asked to describe himself as a player. “I always set high expectations for myself, so I’m looking to score a lot of goals for West Ham this season.
“I’ve been out for a while now, so now I’m just excited to get going – and get scoring.”
