Ireland striker Scott Hogan is reportedly set for another loan move away from Aston Villa with Championship club Stoke City poised to sign the 27-year old.
Hogan joined Sheffield United on loan from Aston Villa in January and he helped Chris Wilder’s side to Premier League promotion playing eight times, scoring twice and creating one goal.
The frontman added some strong depth to United’s forward-line and impressed in his short spell, but the Blades opted not to bring him back to the club following their promotion to the Premier League.
According to Gregg Evans of The Athletic, Hogan may find himself back in the Championship this season with Stoke City closing in on a loan deal for the striker.
Hogan would be linking up with fellow Irish players James McClean, Stephen Ward and Nathan Collins at the Bet365 and would add another proven quality option to their attack.
The striker’s previous spell at Aston Villa was a largely unsuccessful one as a lack of fitness and game time meant that he scored just 10 goals in 61 games since his arrival from Brentford and it had been expected that the Irish international would be moving on from the club in some capacity this summer.
Despite Hogan’s lack of form and fitness issues the striker is clearly someone McCarthy is fond of, with the Irish boss starting him in the game against Gibraltar in June.
