UCD and Irish U21s pair Liam Scales and Neil Farrugia have reportedly been invited to train with Manchester City U23’s following their impressive displays this season.
Both Farrugia and Scales are very highly rated and have taken excellently to life in the top flight after helping UCD to the First Division title last season.
Daniel McDonnell on the Independent.ie is reporting that City’s Irish scout Mick Collins is a huge fan of the pair who were recently in included in Stephen Kenny’s U21s squad in the victory over Luxembourg.
Scales did not feature in the 3-0 victory but left-sided attacker Farrugia was very impressive, grabbing a goal in his first start for the U21s.
The report also goes on to outline that “a number of overseas clubs are now trailing UCD’s top talents” after their promising start to life in the top division.
The pair is expected to take up Manchester City’s offer in an attempt to boost their profile. They will also take optimism in City’s purchase of fellow 21s international Gavin Bazunu who signed from Shamrock Rovers last summer.
Scales, who is a talented centre-half, was reportedly the subject of a bid from champions Dundalk at the start of the season while Farrugia turned down the option to sign for QPR last year.
Farrugia and Scales are once again expected to link up with Ireland’s U21s for the upcoming Toulon Tournament in June.
