Mick McCarthy has called former Irish U21s captain Josh Cullen up to the senior squad for the first time, with injuries ruling Alan Browne and Ronan Curtis out of the games against Gibraltar and Georgia.
Cullen is currently on loan at League One side Charlton from West Ham and has been impressing at the heart of their midfield this season.
Speaking as he cut his initial 38 man squad down to 23, McCarthy had outlined that Cullen “impressed him” when he went to see Portsmouth’s game against Charlton last week, so much so that the Irish boss opted to go and see him again midweek.
The 22-year old has previously captained Ireland at U21 level and was awarded the U21 player of the year award in 2017.
Elsewhere, Preston midfielder Alan Browne, who has been in scintillating form this season, will miss out with a ankle injury as will Portsmouth winger Ronan Curtis who has a finger injury.
Burnley defender Kevin Long has also been drafted in to complete the 23-man squad.
