Man United’s hierarchy reportedly overruled Ole Gunnar Solskjaer over top target

Manchester United’s hierarchy reportedly overruled manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer over Jude Bellingham’s signing from Birmingham City.

The 17-year-old was heavily linked with a move to Old Trafford after an impressive debut season at St Andrew’s.

Bellingham was snapped up by Borussia Dortmund for a fee of around £22 million signing for the club in July.

According to ESPN, United missed out on Bellingham as they refused to match Dortmund’s £56,000-a-week offer.

The report outlines that Solskjaer was confident in Bellingham being a part of the first-team squad at Old Trafford.

He believed that the midfielder would ‘make at least 20 first-team appearances next season, despite his age.’

United’s owners, the Glazers, however, as well as executive vice-chairman Ed Woodward did not agree.

It is understood that they were reluctant to sanction a deal for Bellingham given his inexperience.

Bellingham would earn almost £3m-a-year at Old Trafford. However, the hierarchy did not see as feasible given the fact that he has only one year of professional experience under his belt.

ESPN outline that United do not want to repeat the mistakes of previous signings, in terms of wages.

Alexis Sanchez is on £18m-a-year at the club since arriving at Arsenal but has largely struggled.

United, however, remain committed to paying top wages for the leading players.

Solskjaer targets Sancho Deal

Man United are expected to sign Dortmund’s Jadon Sancho this summer.

United are reportedly close to agreeing on personal terms with the English winger.

The two clubs, however, are said to still be far away in terms of a fee for Sancho.

Solskjaer’s side hope they can avoid the most unlikely comeback in their Europa League clash with Lask on Wednesday evening.

United have a five-goal lead heading into the second leg of their last 16 tie against the Austrian side.
