Irish U21 striker Troy Parrott has been named in the Tottenham starting XI for their Carabao Cup clash against Colchester this evening.

Parrott has travelled with the first team previously but the third round clash in the Colchester Community Stadium will mark his first start for the senior squad.

The 17-year-old is currently Spurs’ second choice striker and had impressed in pre-season against European giants like Real Madrid and Juventus.

Parrott’s first inclusion in the senior squad is also a huge plus for Irish manager Mick McCarthy who had previously outlined that the striker would have to be getting game time for Spurs to be considered at international level.

The former Belvedere man recently made his debut for Stephen Kenny’s U21 side, scoring the only goal in their European qualifying victory over Armenia in Tallaght Stadium before scoring a brilliant brace in their impressive win over Sweden four days later.

Kenny will no doubt be hoping Parrott can get his first senior goal against Colchester this evening as the U21s prepare for a crucial qualifier with Italy in three weeks time but should he impress and continue getting chances he may find himself involved in McCarthy’s plans for the games against Georgia and Switzerland.

Tottenham’s game against Colchester kicks off at 7:45 this evening.
