Irish 21s Star Connor Ronan Helps Guide Slovakian Side To Europa League

Irish U21 international Connor Ronan ended the season on a high as he helped to guide his club FC DAC 1904 Dunajská Streda to second place in the Slovakian Super Liga and a spot in the Europa League next year.

Ronan has been with the club since January when he joined on loan from Premier League side Wolves and has played 13 times since his arrival in Slovakia.

The 21-year-old provided an assist in DAC’s 5-0 victory over Zemplín Michalovce in their final game of the season as they secured a place in Europe for only the fifth time in their history.

Ronan has primarily played in the centre of DAC’s midfield this season, scoring once and making two goals, with the fans clearly taking a liking to the Irish U21 international

His parent club Wolves were also clearly impressed by Ronan’s displays in Slovakia as he was rewarded with a new two-year contract just last week.

Ronan was also included in Stephen Kenny’s squad for the upcoming Toulon Tournament in June which will provide another platform for the Wolves man to impress.

The 21-year old was arguably the standout performer in Ireland’s victory over Luxembourg in their European qualifying opener setting up two goals in a 3-0 victory.

Manager Stephen Kenny was full of praise for Ronan’s decision to move to an unusual location like Slovakia during the last international break.

“You have to have guts about you to go to Slovakia and take that chance on. He’s had a few weeks out there of not playing, just getting himself into the team.

“I watched him play the last few weeks and he’s done very well. He’s taken that into today’s very inventive, intelligent, lively and good performance.”

Following the 5-0 victory, Ronan and his teammates understandably celebrated their return to European football in style
