Ireland U21s Handed Tricky Group For Upcoming Toulon Tournament

Stephen Kenny Ireland U21

Stephen Kenny’s U21s side have been drawn against Bahrain, China and Mexico in the 2019 Maurice Revello Toulon Tournament.

12 teams will compete in the tournament, split into three groups, with France, England, Brazil, Portugal, Chile, Japan, Guatemala and Qatar set to complete the lineup.

Ireland will begin their group on June 3rd against China and they will then face Mexico on Thursday, June 6 before their final group game against Bahrain on Sunday, June 9.

The semi-finals are set for Wednesday, June 12 with the final set for Sunday, June 15 as Ireland compete in their first Toulon Tournament since 2002.

The competition is played with 40-minute halves and is not run under the supervision of FIFA or an individual national association.

With Kenny’s side not in competitive action again until September, this tournament represents an excellent chance for the U21s to get together as a group once again.

Ireland’s U21s defeated Luxembourg by 3-0 in their first match under Stephen Kenny as they opened their European Championship qualifying campaign in impressive fashion.
