Harvey Neville, son of former Manchester United defender Phil Neville, has been included in the Irish U19s squad ahead of their upcoming friendlies against Denmark.
Neville, who is also at Manchester United, had previously been on the books at Valencia before signing with the Red Devils in June 2018 and has never been called up to an Irish international side before.
The 17-year-old right-back qualifies to play for the Boys in Green through his grandmother and will be hoping to be involved in both games against Denmark.
When contacted by Pundit Arena, A Football Association of Ireland spokesperson said:
“The Football Association of Ireland was made aware of the eligibility of Manchester United’s Harvey Neville to represent the Republic of Ireland. It is routine practice for the Football Association of Ireland to explore all players who are available to represent our national teams.
“Harvey joined Tom Mohan’s Under-19 squad for a two-day training camp in Dublin in September and has now been selected for the fixtures against Denmark in Sligo on Friday, October 11 and Monday, October 14.”
The squad also includes 18-year-old German-born attacking midfielder Conor Noss who recently made the first team bench for Bundesliga leaders Borussia Monchengladbach.
Noss was involved in an Irish training camp in September and Mohan outlined that he is looking forward to working with the talented prospect.
“Conor plays at number 10. He was in our last training camp. He impressed a lot and is technically a very good player. He’s doing very well in Germany and we’re excited by him.”
