Marseille are said to have given up on on signing West Ham United midfielder Dimitri Payet.
Sky Sports report that the French side have lost interest in the winger and are now considering alternative options. Marseille submitted three separate bids after holding talks with Payet but failed to meet the Hammers’ valuation of the French international.
Payet, who has refused to play for Slaven Bilic’s men since speculation about his future began, actually joined the club in 2015 from Marseille. However, now that the plug has been pulled on a move, the 29-year-old may have to look for opportunities elsewhere as it looks unlikely he will ever play for the Londoners again.
The Independent reported that Payet had been removed from West Ham’s Whatsapp group amid anger and frustration amongst his teammates. The winger had been heavily tipped for a move form the London Stadium following his impressive showing at last summer’s European Championships.
However, Payet remained at the club where his form has suffered as West Ham endure a difficult start to life at their new home. Now that the team has found a strong run of form in recent weeks however, Bilic may feel that he can make do without the Frenchman.
With a host of clubs linked with Payet’s signature in the summer, he may find a new home before the transfer window is closed, but if West Ham price clubs out of a move he could face the remainder of the Premier League season in the reserves.
