Watch: Ireland Hopeful Liam Kelly Scored Two Peaches Last Night

Liam Kelly scored two wonderful goals as Reading defeated Gilligham in the League Cup Tuesday night.

The 21-year-old established himself in Reading’s first team and has become a firm favourite of Jaap Stam.

Kelly was one of the more experienced heads in an experimental Reading side that dispatched their League 1 opponents 2-0 with Kelly grabbing both goals in stunning fashion.

Both goals were of similar quality and both struck from the edge of the box. Kelly is an exciting midfielder who can play the number 10 role or as a more defensive midfielder. Despite only being 5-foot-6, the technically gifted player possesses plenty of strength and power in his game.

Kelly has represented Ireland at various levels and has been included in Martin O’Neill’s last two provisional squads. He was one of Reading’s standout players as they narrowly missed out on promotion last season, losing on penalties to Huddersfield town in the play-off final.

Irish fans will hope that his form can continue with the crunch qualifiers against Georgia and Serbia fast approaching. With Wes Hoolahan likely to hang up his international boots at the end of this campaign, Kelly could be the man to take the baton from the Reading man
