Following speculation that Antoine Griezman could arrive at Manchester United in the summer, rumours of a departure are surfacing.
The Independent are suggesting that Luke Shaw could be sold by Jose Mourinho when the summer transfer window opens. Shaw has been with United since 2014 but has only racked up 28 league appearances at Old Trafford since his arrival from Southampton.
Much of this is owing to ongoing injuries and in particular his horrific leg break against PSV Eindhoven last season. The twenty-one-year-old made his senior debut as a sixteen-year-old for Southampton in 2012 and was heavily sought after by top clubs in his teens. He enjoyed sixty league appearances for the Saints and was included in the England squad for the 2014 World Cup.
He was selected as part of the 2013/14 Premier League team of the season, taking the left back spot. This prompted United to splash out a reported 30-million pounds for his services. Shaw has made a promising start to his United career and despite his injury problems has impressed for the Red Devils.
However, manager Mourinho is said to be growing impatient and increasingly frustrated with the defender’s development with him fancying a move in the summer for Danny Rose. With Daley Blind, who is more comfortable at centre-half, and Matteo Darmian a more natural right back, Mourinho may feel the need to bring in an experienced left back with fewer fitness issues than Shaw.
Despite his lack of games over the last few season, Man United will hope to attract a strong fee for Shaw. The defender will no doubt attract a long list of Premier League admirers should a decision be made to let him go elsewhere. At just 21, he still has a long career ahead of him (especially given his talent) but if Mourinho has his way it could be away from Old Trafford.
