Jack Grealish could be in line for a move to Middlesbrough. The Premier League side could move for the attacker should Gaston Ramirez depart for Leicester City.
The Daily Mail claim that should key Uruguayan midfielder Ramirez depart for the champions, the Villa man could be tasked with filling the void. The England under-21 international has had an impressive season for Villa playing in a more central position under Steve Bruce. However, with the Villans struggling in their promotion chase, the youngster may be tempted by a Premier League side.
Grealish is highly regarded at Villa and is finally a regular starter for the club having been used sparingly as the team were relegated last season. Their relegation has only benefited Grealish though, who has made 21 appearances in the Championship scoring three goals. The Birmingham-born midfielder famously declined the offer to play for the Republic of Ireland having represented the country’s underage teams in the past.
Now an England under-21 international, the ex-Notts County loanee will hope for a Premier League return to harbour his full international ambitions. However, the club that he has been linked with are in danger of facing the same fate as Villa last season.
Boro are four points off safety and would be reluctant to lose any players with a relegation dog fight on their hands. Aitor Karanka has attempted to replicate Boro’s attractive style of play that saw them gain automatic promotion to the Premier League but has struggled this term.
Should Grealish make the move it would be a blow to Villa. After a heavy recruitment drive that has seen Conor Hourihane, Henri Lansbury, Birkir Bjarnason and James Bree join the club, Bruce will be reluctant to lose one of his key performers as Villa make one last stride towards the play-offs.
