Watch: Phil Jones Own Goal Doubles Valencia’s Lead

Matters have gone from bad to worse for Manchester United tonight as an own goal from Phil Jones in the 46th minute has gifted Valencia a 2-0 lead in their Champions League group match.

Jones found himself chasing a through ball with Michy Batshuayi and as he slid in for the tackle, Sergio Romero was left stranded and the 26-year-old accidentally knocked the ball past his goalkeeper.

The defender is the Manchester United player to score an own goal during a Champions League match since his own goal back in November 2011 against Benfica.

Valencia took the lead after just 17 minutes when Jones’ clearance header found its way to Carlos Soler who struck the ball low past Romero.
