Jose Mourinho: Troy Parrott Needs More Time To Develop

Tottenham manager Jose Mourinho has said Republic of Ireland international Troy Parrott needs more time to develop as he insisted Harry Kane is still “fundamental” to his plans.

Parrott was an unused sub in Spurs’ 3-1 loss to Bayern Munich in the UEFA Champions League during the week while Kane was rested for the dead-rubber game in Germany following a hectic schedule.

Tottenham have a run of five fixtures over the Christmas period, beginning on Sunday against Wolves and ending on January 5 with an FA Cup meeting with Middlesborough.

Considering their limited supply of strikers, Mourinho maintains that he cannot afford to rest the England captain during the festive period.

“It’s a sign of matches and matches. If you ask me am I going to give him a rest on December 26 as we have a match after two days, no, I’m not going to give a rest. There are matches and matches.

“The Munich match was one of these ones when the result was secondary, but when the result is fundamental in the squad we have and Number 9 is Harry and Parrott”, Football.London reports.

“Parrott is a 17-year-old boy that played five minutes in the Premier League and we’ll give him more time”, Mourinho continued.

“He needs more time to develop and so yes Harry is fundamental for us.”

Those five Premier League minutes came in the side’s 5-0 win over Burnley when he became the youngest player to make a Premier League appearance this season.

Mourinho marked the occasion by handing the Irish underage star the match ball following the win.
