Gardai Search Limerick Sports Ground Amid Match Fixing Allegations

Gardai have confirmed that a search was carried out on Tuesday at a sports ground in Limerick as part of an investigation into match-fixing.

In a tweet posted to the Garda Info account, it was confirmed that members of the Garda National Economic Crime Bureau (GNECB) conducted the search at the unnamed venue in the county with local Gardaí also assisting.

“Members from the GNECB at the conclusion of a search operation that was carried out today, Tuesday 3rd September, 2019 at a sports ground in Limerick in relation to an investigation into Match Fixing. Local Garda members also assisted in the search.”

According to a report in the Irish Independent, the incident was related to football. The FAI released a short statement on Tuesday night.

“The FAI are aware of the developments and are awaiting a report from the Gardai.”

It is also believed that UEFA have been informed of the investigation with further details expected next week.
