Real Madrid Want Mauricio Pochettino To Replace Zinedine Zidane [Balague]

Pochettino

Tottenham manager Mauricio Pochettino is the Real Madrid board’s overwhelming favourite to take over at Real Madrid should the Spanish giants sack Zinedine Zidane.

Zidane has come under fire recently, with Madrid dumped out of the Copa Del Rey this week by minnows Leganes as well as currently trailing arch-rivals Barcelona by a staggering 19 points in La Liga.

Real face PSG in the last 16 of the UEFA Champions League and should they fall short against Neymar and co then it is likely that Zidane will be shown the door at the Santiago Bernabeu.

The Frenchman has won back-to-back Champions Leagues at the club, as well as last season’s La Liga title – but four defeats already in the competition this season have seen his side come in for serious scrutiny.

According to Sky Sports’ Guillem Balague – the man who Real would like to see replace Zidane is Spurs coach Pochettino. However, Balague questions Madrid’s ability to lure one of Spurs’ prized assets away from them.

“Pochettino is top of Real Madrid’s wanted list; he is number one, number two, number three and number four for [Madrid President] Florentino Perez,”

“He definitely wants Pochettino, there’s no doubt about that. I’m pretty sure Mauricio and Spurs know that themselves, but it doesn’t mean anything.”

“Pochettino has often said his future does not depend on him and there’s truth in that.”

“[…]for Pochettino to move to Real Madrid they would have to convince [Tottenham Chairman] Daniel Levy, something Real won’t be able to do.”

The news will do no favours in quashing rumours linking star striker Harry Kane with a move to Madrid either – with the transfer becoming all the more likely should Pochettino take the reigns at the Bernabeu in future.

While nothing is concrete as of yet and Zidane is still in his job the allure of Real Madrid has often been difficult for South Americans to turn down, and should Real come knocking, it is possible that Pochettino will open the door.

Spurs fans will be biting their nails whilst watching these developments unfold.
