Five Talking Points From Chelsea West Ham

Chelsea 2-0 West Ham… After another cruise control performance from Mourinho’s men at the Bridge, we look at five talking points from the 12:45 kick off.

1. Costa is all he’s cracked up to be and more

Since signing in the summer some have questioned if Diego Costa really is the player he seemed to be for Atletico Madrid last season. After a roaring start to the season Costa had scored just one goal in the last 5 league games prior to today’s bout with West Ham. However, the poise, skill and precision displayed with the taking of Chelsea’s second goal showed just how crucial Costa remains to Chelsea’s title charge.

2. West Ham Can Forget About Europe

After an unexpectedly strong start to the season, Andy Carroll went as far as to claim that the Hammers could challenge for the title this season. They can’t. Some however said that Europe may just about be on the cards. It isn’t. They were dominated from start to finish today and unless they can bring in some serious reinforcements in January, you can expect the likes of Everton, Arsenal, Spurs and even Liverpool to push them down the table in the latter half of the season.

3. John Terry is getting better and better

Last week, Opta released statistics highlighting better tackles and aerial duels ratios for JT this season when compared to his 24 year old self in the 04/05 season. He is also committing less fouls even though he is engaging in more tackles. He scored again today. Not much more can be said.

4. Matic the Man

Chelsea’s only blip this season came during the Serbian’s brief absence from midfield. He is an absolute force in the centre of the park and crucial to Mourinho’s philosophy on the pitch. Another stellar performance today highlighted just how important he is to the men in blue.

5. Chelsea are going to win the League

Managing at Porto, Inter, Real and Chelsea, Jose Mourinho has never lost the league when leading on Christmas day. He was leading and just cruised on Boxing day. It’s all over friends.
