With Paul Pogba’s future at Manchester United very much in doubt, former Barcelona great Ronaldinho has stated that the French international has the potential to win the Ballon D’Or.
It’s been a rough couple of months for Paul Pogba with Jose Mourinho leaving the 25-year-old on the bench on several occasions since the turn of the year.
However, with the midfielder’s form picking up somewhat of late, the retired Ronaldinho has stated that, given his ability, the former Juventus man can go on to make footballing history.
“He can win the Ballon d’Or, without a doubt,” the former Barcelona star explained to Canal Football Club.
“I see Pogba as a friend, I don’t see myself as his idol.”
“He is young, talented and he has the ability to play anywhere, he can play in a free role, defensive, as a runner or attacking.”
“He has the characteristics of a player who can fill any position, he can make history.”
Given the reported clash between Pogba and Mourinho however, Ronaldinho stated that the French midfielder needs to respect the decisions of his manager and that he rates the Portuguese boss as one of the best footballing brains in the game.
“He knows the substitutes’ bench, like me at Paris Saint-Germain with [former coach Luis] Fernandez. It is not the same, when Mourinho tells you that you’re on the bench you have to respect that, the other guy, a little less,” he said referring to his infamously fraught relationship with his former PSG coach.
“I think Paul really has a lot to learn from Mourinho, who is one of the best coaches in the world. A coach who has won so many titles should be respected. In my case, it was the opposite.”
