“What a player.”
Richards, who has played alongside both Tevez and Aguero during his time at Manchester City, claimed that while Aguero is a better finisher, Tevez had “more to his game”.
Tevez joined Man United on a two-year loan deal from West Ham United back in 2007.
The Argentine scored 19 goals in his debut campaign, forming a deadly attacking partnership with Cristiano Ronaldo and Wayne Rooney at Old Trafford.
Tevez’s exploits helped the team win the Premier League and the Champions League during the 2007-08 season.
However, Tevez ended up upsetting much of Man United’s fanbase by agreeing to move to Man City in the summer of 2009.
The former Argentina international scored 73 goals in 148 games for the Citizens, winning the Premier League in 2012.
Richards on Tevez.
Richards appeared on the BBC Match of the Day Top 10 podcast and claimed that Tevez was a better player than Aguero in terms of his overall ability on the pitch.
“Oh wow, what a player (he was),” Richards said.
“Ability wise, he had more than Aguero. Aguero is a more natural finisher, put him in there (penalty box) and he will score.
“He (Tevez) had more to his game, he could link the play. He could play (in) any of the front three positions. He worked a lot harder than anyone. His attitude was great (but) he didn’t speak to anyone in training.”
Richards was then asked to pick between Aguero and Tevez, to which he replied:
“It’s too hard. That’s like asking (Thierry) Henry or Alan Shearer?” Richards said.
“They’re different players, aren’t they? If I had to pick one, Aguero won me a Premier League, so I’ve got to pick Aguero but (in terms of) all-round ability, Tevez was way better.”
