Roy Keane is staying positive amid Manchester United’s demise, stating that there is still a lot to play for this season.

The former Man United captain was speaking in the Sky Sports studio, ahead of the club’s 2-2 draw with Aston Villa on Saturday evening.

Man United’s demise.

It all seemed to be plain sailing for the visitors with a brace from Bruno Fernandes ensuring that they led 2-0 going into the last 15 minutes.

However, Steven Gerrard’s decision to bring on Philippe Coutinho for his Villa debut proved decisive, as the Brazilian played a part in Jacob Ramsey’s goal before equalising himself in the 82nd minute.

Roy Keane: “There’s a lot to play for.”

Speaking before the game though, Keane was strangely sunny in his outlook for the prospects of his old club.

“I’m still trying to look at the positives,” he said. “They’ve got an FA Cup tie coming up at home to a Championship team, they’re still in Europe and I think they’ve a chance of getting fourth.

“That’s where Man United are at the moment. Of course they’re short in terms of winning titles but I still think there’s a lot to play for for this football team.”

Rangnick deserves a chance.

Despite an unspectacular start to life under Rangnick, Keane called for fans to keep faith in the German coach as he looks to integrate a new system.

“We’ve got to give the manager a chance,” the ex-Republic of Ireland skipper said.

“He’s only in the door. There are a lot of problems at Man United. I don’t think they have the players who necessarily want to play that pressing game. I think their stats the other night weren’t great (in the 1-0 FA Cup win over Villa) but they got the most important stat and that was scoring a goal and keeping a clean sheet, so there are positives there.”
