Patrick Vieira could be returning to London.

Patrick Vieira and Crystal Palace have “reached an agreement” for the Frenchman to take charge at Selhurst Park, according to a report in The Athletic.

While a deal is yet to be signed, “all parties expect an agreement to be rubberstamped today.” Vieira is currently working as a pundit with ITV at Euro 2020.

Patrick Vieira enjoyed a glittering spell at Arsenal.

If Patrick Vieira does become Crystal Palace manager, it will mean a return to London for the man who became a legend during his playing days at Arsenal.

After joining the Gunners in the summer of 1996, he enjoyed nine trophy-laden years at Highbury, winning three Premier League titles and four FA Cups.

He took over as captain when Tony Adams retired in 2002 and is widely seen as one of the finest midfielders to grace the Premier League.

Spells on both sides of the Atlantic.

He later played for Juventus, Inter Milan and Manchester City before retiring in 2011.

A spell as manager of Man City’s Elite Development Squad ended when Vieira took his first senior managerial role at New York City FC in 2016.

Each season with Vieira in charge, the club improved their final MLS standings, going from 17th before he took over to fourth and then second in his final season.

A big rebuilding job for Patrick Vieira.

This attracted the attention of Ligue 1 side Nice, who took Vieira back to France in 2018. He led the club to seventh and fifth place finishes before a run of five successive defeats saw him dismissed in December 2020.

If Patrick Vieira’s appointment at Crystal Palace is finalised, he will replace Roy Hodgson who left Selhurst Park at the end of the 2020/21 campaign.

During his four years in charge, Palace finished 11th, 12th, 14th and 14th in the Premier League and never looked to be in serious danger of relegation.

Vieira will be tasked with rebuilding a squad with a number of club stalwarts now out of contract including Patrick Van Aanholt, Andros Townsend and Martin Kelly.
