Manuel Locatelli wanted by Premier League clubs.

Arsenal and another Premier League club are in the race for the signature of Manuel Locatelli, according to Sassuolo chief executive Giovanni Carnevali.

Locatelli put in a series of impressive performances during Italy’s successful Euro 2020 campaign and a number of clubs are reportedly looking to prise him away from Sassuolo.

Manuel Locatelli also on Juventus radar.

Along with Arsenal and the other unnamed Premier League club, the midfielder is also on the radar of Juventus and Carnevali has indicated that he would prefer to see Locatelli stay in Serie A.

“Friday we will talk with Juve,” Carnevali told Sky in Italy. “It is not certain that we will meet but we will do it anyway shortly and in the coming days. Time is running out.”

Referring to Premier League interest, Carnevali said: “There is also a discussion with Arsenal and another English club. We are pleased that he can stay in the Italian league. We’ll see what happens.”

Locatelli helped Sassuolo to their highest top-flight points total in their history last season, as they finished eighth in Serie A on 62 points.

Euro 2020 glory for Manuel Locatelli.

The 23-year-old began his career at AC Milan, making 63 appearances for the Rossoneri before moving to Sassuolo on loan for the 2018/19 season. He then signed permanently for the club in the summer of 2019.

Locatelli played a key role in Italy’s road to Euro 2020 this summer, scoring two goals against Switzerland in a 3-0 group stage victory.

He was relegated to the bench in later matches following Marco Verratti’s return from injury and despite missing a penalty in the semi-final shootout win over Spain, Locatelli won many admirers for his displays as a substitute in the knockout stages.

What would Arsenal be getting if they sign Manuel Locatelli?

Locatelli is primarily used as a deep-lying midfielder with a licence to attack and may be seen as an upgrade on Granit Xhaka, who is rumoured to be leaving Arsenal this summer.

In 2015, The Guardian named Locatelli as one of the 50 best young players in the world who were born in 1998.

Overall, he has won 15 caps for Italy and scored three goals since making his international debut in September 2020.
