Jason McAteer weighs in on Twitter feud.

Forget about Liverpool v Manchester City, Jamie Carragher and Liam Gallagher was the feud that had everyone talking on Sunday night.

After a dramatic Premier League final day, it was City who came out on top in a title race that went right down to the wire.

Premier League title race.

At one point though, things were looking ropey for Pep Guardiola’s men as they trailed 2-0 to an Aston Villa side managed by Liverpool legend Steven Gerrard.

Three late goals turned things around though, and rendered Liverpool’s eventual 3-1 win over Wolves as fruitless, with City ultimately winning the league by a single point.

Naturally, die-hard City fan Gallagher took to Twitter to share his joy, and at one point he seemed to take issue with something Carragher said on commentary.

Jamie Carragher v Liam Gallagher.

‘What you saying Carra, you (bell)end,” posted the former Oasis frontman, before the ex-Liverpool defender hit back with ‘I’m saying you’ll never win the Champions league & Oasis are shite compared to the Beatles. That work?’

Of course, Gallagher wasn’t going to take this lying down, opting for slightly more expletive-laden retort second time around.

‘Eh carra you got s**t banter for a scouser f*****g hell la,’ he wrote. ‘you been hanging out with Neville too long, Oasis piss all over the Beatles, how many times did they do Knebworth?’

Quite. It wasn’t long before some of Carragher’s pals got involved, including former Republic of Ireland hero Jason McAteer, himself a Liverpool fan and former player.

‘Your (sic) not even the best singer in your house you p***k even your mum knocks out a better tune. See you in Paris.’

As Liverpool head off to the French capital in a bid to win the Champions League and complete a cup treble, Gallagher will have to make do with his club winning their fourth Premier League title in five years.

Amid all of this, he also had time to have a go at Gerrard, saying that the Villa boss can ‘can kiss my arse as well the bumbaclart, his old clubs fans smash our bus up MCFC CHAMPIONS.’

Some have suggested that the enmity between Liverpool and Man City is tamer than other Premier League rivalries, but off the field it seems the animosity is only getting stronger.
