Jamie Carragher mocks Gary Neville over Ole Gunnar Solskjaer.

Jamie Carragher has joked that Gary Neville is missing from the Super Sunday panel because he’s not ready to analyse Manchester United without Ole Gunnar Solskjaer in charge.

Towards the end of Solskjaer’s reign as Man United manager, Neville received criticism for his reluctance to call out his ex-teammate despite a dreadful run of form for the Red Devils.

“Gary Neville not ready to analyse Man United yet.”

Sunday marks the first Man United game that Sky Sports have covered since Solskjaer’s departure and while Roy Keane and Jamie Carragher are at Stamford Bridge for the game against Chelsea, Neville is notable by his absence.

‘Join us at 1:00 for Brentford v Everton then Chelsea v Man United,’ Carragher posted, alongside the names of Keane, Dave Jones and Jimmy Floyd Hasselbaink.

‘Gary Neville said he didn’t want to do it as he’s not ready to analyse Man Utd without Ole just yet,” the former Liverpool defender added, alongside a ‘shrug’ emoji.

For his part, Neville replied with a ‘mask’ emoji, implying he may be unwell, and warned Carragher: ‘Don’t cock it up without me.’

As the Solskjaer era at Man United came to its inevitable conclusion, Neville was presented with a number of opportunities to question the manager’s suitability to the role but refused to ever call for his sacking.

Home defeats to arch-rivals Liverpool and Manchester City over the autumn appeared to mark new low points in Solskjaer’s reign but it was last weekend’s 4-1 defeat to Watford that finally convinced the Old Trafford hierarchy that it was time for a change.

Michael Carrick, who worked as a coach under Solskjaer, has taken temporary charge of the first team, with Ralf Rangnick reportedly waiting in the wings to take over until the end of the season.

After guiding United into the knockout stages of the Champions League, courtesy of a 2-0 over Villarreal earlier this week, Carrick will remain in charge for Sunday’s visit to Chelsea but Rangnick could be in the dugout for Thursday’s home match against Arsenal.
