Man United fans unearth old Jack Grealish tweet that won’t endear him to Man City supporters

An old tweet suggests Jack Grealish is a Manchester United fan.

Manchester City have opened transfer talks with Aston Villa’s Jack Grealish but an old tweet appears to suggest that the midfielder is a Man United fan.

Grealish is often portrayed as the ultimate boy-done-good Villa supporter, having been born in Birmingham before lining out for and captaining his local club.

While the England star’s love for Villa seems genuine, United supporters have been taking some mischievous glee in a tweet posted by a 16-year-old Grealish in 2012.

A young Grealish writes: “On route to training, finally I’m back training n the suns shining, absolutely BUZZING for the game tonight, come on u reds #United.”

Cast you mind back to April 2012, when the tweet was shared, and Premier League fans were gripped by a United v City title race which would ultimately go right down to the wire. Grealish, it appears, was no different.

Given that the tweet is dated April 30th, the match he was referring to was a crucial derby between the two rivals, which City ended up winning 1-0 thanks to a header from their captain Vincent Kompany.

The victory put City top of the league on goal difference as they closed in on a first title since 1968 and Jack would surely have been gutted when Sergio Aguero hit that famous winner against Queens Park Rangers on the final day.

It wasn’t the only time Grealish nailed his colours to the Old Trafford mast, writing “Get in!!!!! Come on United!!!!” during a Champions League encounter with Bayern Munich in 2014.

All this was a long time ago of course and the fact he hasn’t deleted the tweets shows that he isn’t too bothered about what United fans think. He’s also been known to alter his allegiances from time to time, as Irish supporters will testify.

Despite his red leanings, it now appears there’s a real possibility that Grealish will line out in Man City blue this coming season.

The Guardian reports that a decision on whether a deal can be struck between Villa and City “is expected within days” with the asking price set at around the £100m mark.

Villa are intent on holding firm and building a successful team around their star man but if Grealish declares his desire to leave, it might open the door for a move to Pep Guardiola’s Premier League champions.
