Huge crowd turn up to see Everton coach off to Leciester

Everton fans turn out to see squad off to Leicester.

The Everton squad made their way to Leicester on Saturday for what is sure to be a pivotal match in their bid to avoid relegation.

If manager Frank Lampard and his players ever felt like they had lost their supporters then they were proven wrong on Saturday afternoon, as fans turned up at their Finch Farm training ground to wave them off.

Defiant scenes at Finch Farm.

Blue smoke swirled around the air while Lampard, sitting at the front of the coach, greeted fans as the bus snaked through the crowd to begin a journey that should last little more than two hours.

The scenes show just how desperately the Toffees support want to avoid a first relegation since 1951 and if the players show the same kind of passion in their final five matches, they might just have a chance.

Sunday’s game against Leicester is the first of back-to-back away matches, with a visit to Watford to come on Wednesday.

Picking up six points could prove tricky for an Everton side who haven’t won away from home since a solitary victory at Brighton back in August when Rafael Benitez was still in charge.

However, they will take heart in Aston Villa’s victory over fellow strugglers Burnley on Saturday, which put a halt to the recent resurgence of the Clarets.

At the time of writing, Everton are just two points behind Burnley and Leeds United with two games in hand on the former and one game in hand on the later.

The upcoming away double-header for the Toffees will be followed by two games at Goodison Park, where they have been in good form of late, against Brentford and Crystal Palace.

If things aren’t decided by then, they will have a final chance to save themselves away to Arsenal on the final day of the Premier League season.

Leeds, meanwhile have matches to come against Arsenal, Chelsea, Brighton and Brentford, while Burnley must still face Tottenham, Aston Villa (again) and Newcastle.
