Thomas Tuchel ready to ‘take risks’ by playing a recovering Mateo Kovacic and N’golo Kante

Thomas Tuchel is prepared to take risks for the FA Cup final.

Chelsea aren’t struggling for depth in their midfield with players like Jorginho, Ruben Loftus Cheek, Mason Mount and Ross Barkley all fit and available at the moment but to defeat Liverpool in the FA Cup final, Thomas Tuchel might have to risk using two of his best, Mateo Kovacic and N’Golo Kante.

Kovacic and Kante both bring very different qualities to Chelsea but with both injured, Tuchel might not have the luxury of selecting them in his upcoming game.

Kovacic and Kante

Tuchel has never shied away from praising Kovacic and it seems to come so naturally to him that he could be deemed as Tuchel’s favourite player.

“We will try it (using Kovacic in training) which is surprising news that we’re even in a situation to do that,” said Tuchel.

“But Mateo wants to try it and the medical department gave a green light to try it.

“The ligament is already torn from the last injury so there’s no new injury just heavy pain and it’s heavily swollen.”

Kovacic has spent quite a lot of time on the sidelines this season, largely due to injuries. When he does play, however, he shows how good of a player he is.

“He was, in the game, very good and again in general he stepped up this season. The qualities of him and his personality, we’ve spoken a lot about it… he is a fantastic guy and a fantastic player.

“Unfortunately now, he’s so ambitious but he has this injury now before the FA Cup final so we will see everything and try tomorrow.”

Kante is also injured at the moment but is definitely one of Chelsea’s best, so his ability to play could be pivotal in tomorrow’s clash.

“He’s also trying, he tried yesterday in team training and trained, more or less, everything. We will also try today with him. He is also keen to make it and hopefully, he makes it to training. Playing with him tomorrow would be crucial for us.

“It’s the moment to take risks.”
