Man City’s referee controversy.
There are a multitude of reasons why Real Madrid have gotten through to the Champions League final ahead of Manchester City but in their second leg showdown, some people are of the opinion that the referee played a part.
Gabby Agbonlahor has joined in on those calls and noted one player in particular who benefitted from some poor referee calls.
“We have to touch on Casemiro,” said Agbonlahor on talkSPORT.
🤦♂️ “Casemiro had two bookings in the 1st half! To not get a booking is incredible.”

“For me, he had two bookings in the first half. The first one was a booking for sure on Kevin De Bruyne. That was a dangerous tackle high.
“Pulling Phil Foden back when he’s on the counterattack, that’s a yellow card. So he’s off.”
This wasn’t the only problem that Agbonlahor discussed as he took issue with the referee not playing enough additional time at the end of the match.
“To not get a booking in that first half was incredible. For me we’ve got to look at referees.
“Even stoppage time at the end of the game, he played under three minutes. He blew up early.”
Pep Guardiola’s mistake
Ultimately, Man city’s loss can’t be pinned completely on the referee and one of the biggest mistakes that Agbonlahor spotted was Pep Guardiola’s decision to take off Kevin de Bruyne.
“Pep has got to look in the mirror and say to himself, ‘Why bring off my talisman?’ Even if he’s tired.
“You can rest him in the game against Newcastle. No offense to Newcastle but Man City will beat Newcastle at home on Sunday.
“Kevin de Bruyne should have stayed on the pitch just in case it did go to extra time.”
