Manchester Clubs Set To Face Off For Real Madrid Superstar’s Signature [Report]

January transfer window chatter has already started, with the latest whispers indicating a potential battle between Manchester United and Manchester City for the signature of Real Madrid’s Toni Kroos.

According to the Manchester Evening News, both Manchester-based managers, José Mourinho and Pep Guardiola, are keen on luring the Germany international away from the Bernabeu during the January transfer window.

The 26-year-old moved to the La Liga giants back in 2014 from Bayern Munich and has become an integral part of Real’s midfield engine. Now regarded as one of the finest midfielders in world football, Kroos has started in all but one game for the Champions League winners this term.

Both Manchester clubs have reportedly been interested in the German for some time and according to Spanish journalist Pipe Estrada, Mourinho and Guardiola have earmarked Kroos as a potential midfield general for their respective sides.

“The two managers believe that he may be key to their future because of his tactical position on the field and because he is vital for the continuity of their projects.”

Former United midfield legend Paul Scholes is an admirer of the German and believes he would not only be a good fit at Old Trafford, but that a deal is possible.

“I think Mourinho should go into the market for a controlling midfielder, who can control where Paul (Pogba) goes and control the game.

“I think they still need that type of player. A Luke Modric or a Toni Kroos, and I think these players are available.”

Having cost Real Madrid in the region of £20 million in 2014, you might well expect that price to have doubled, if not tripled, between that time and the fast approaching January window.

It will be then that we see just what appetite the Manchester clubs have for going head-to-head over the star midfielder.
