Jose Mourinho has all-but confirmed that Swedish attacker Zlatan Ibrahimovic will leave Manchester United at the end of the season.
Ibrahimovic joined the red devils from PSG in the 2016/17 and had a prolific first season in Manchester, scoring 28 goals in 46 appearances in all competitions and helping them to win the League Cup and Europa League.
He was released at the end of that campaign having sustained a serious injury in April, but was later offered a new one-year deal to extend his stay at Old Trafford by a further season.
However, this campaign has not gone at all to plan, and further injury curtailed his progress at the club this year – despite making an earlier than expected comeback, he has been limited to a handful of appearances and is currently on the treatment table.
Speaking to the media on Friday ahead of this weekend’s Premier League clash with Crystal Palace, Mourinho suggested the Swedish striker’s time at the club will come to a close this summer:
“For Zlatan, we all think it’s his last season at Manchester United and it will be a very personal decision for him to play or to stop,”
“I think he has won the right of choosing his life, his future, such an amazing player and amazing career that only that awful injury in the wrong moment broke a fantastic couple of seasons he could and should have (had) with us.”
It is not known where the former PSG man will ply his trade next year, but he has been linked with a move to LA Galaxy in the past and strong rumours suggest that he could well make the move to the MLS to finish his playing career.
