Marcus Rashford sent a clear message to his manager with his two crucial goals in Manchester United’s victory over Liverpool on Saturday.
The 20-year-old has played in 27 Premier League matches this season, however just a handful of those appearances have seen him complete the full 90 minutes, with new signing Alexis Sanchez seen by many as yet another threat to any sort of continued inclusion.
With competition for a attacking berths being so intense, with the likes of Romelu Lukaku, Jesse Lingard, Juan Mata, Ashley Young and Anthony Martial all options, it was always going to be difficult to play every minute of every game this term, but the Manchester native is certainly giving Jose Mourinho a tougher job deciding who to pick now.
Although he still has some way to go in ever developing into a world-class talent there are little hints he will some day go on to become a United great.
This will, however, inevitably draw comparisons to previous superstars at the club; one of the most well-known of course being Cristiano Ronaldo, who an eagle-eyed supporter has noticed scored a goal just like the England international’s first strike on Saturday back when he was at Old Trafford.
Perhaps it is no wonder his finish was almost indistinguishable from the Portuguese genius given comments he made in 2016 on Soccer AM (via the Daily Mail):
“Rooney and Ronaldo were unreal,” Rashford said.
“In 2007-08 it was an unreal partnership, they have been huge players I have looked up to and watched how they perform to try to put into my own performance.”

The resemblance in the clip below is certainly uncanny, but we won’t be getting carried away just yet, although a section of United fans may well be.
