Earlier this month, Chelsea and Leicester played out a goalless draw at Stamford Bridge as Claude Puel’s men frustrated the champions who continue to lag behind their Manchester rivals.
The 2015/16 Premier League champions put on a stellar 10-man defensive display which earned them a much-deserved point.
Recent reports have suggested that Antonio Conte could be on his way out at Chelsea.
As well as being homesick, the former Champions League Winner is believed to be infuriated by his clubs lack of transfer activity.
He has been linked with numerous posts such as Bayern Munich and Real Madrid, jobs would surely tempt Conte should they become available.
Paris St-Germain are also believed to be monitoring his situation. There is no doubt that PSG can offer him higher wages then Chelsea and unlimited transfer funds to build his ideal side.
Despite recent reports linking Massimiliano Allegri and Luis Enrique with the club, neither possess the Premier League experience of Puel.
His tactical display on Saturday showed many similarities to that of Jose Mourinho, the club’s most successful manager.
Having succeeded at Southampton, the Frenchman has all but saved the Foxes season.
He has reinvigorated the likes of Jamie Vardy and Riyad Mahrez as the pair look more like the men who inspired Leicester during that fairy-tale title-winning campaign.
On top of that, he has made a fine job of young Harry Maguire, who has attracted the attention of soon-to-be Premier League champions Manchester City.
As well as being able to get the best out of quality players, Puel knows how to set up a team.
Appointing the Frenchman could also see the likes of these players joining him at Stamford Bridge.
All in all, Chelsea are having a decent season. The League Cup, FA Cup and UEFA Champions League are all still there to play for and I’m sure Conte will be very motivated outdo Jose Mourinho’s Manchester United following the recent war of words between the two.
Really and truly it would be a mistake for the board to send Conte packing, however, should Conte’s fate lie elsewhere, Puel has plenty of pull factors for the Blues to strongly consider.
