Opinion: Leroy Sane Deserves More Praise For Excellent Manchester City Form

Manchester City have such an incredible array of talent in a team that looks to have the Pep Guardiola stamp that we witnessed during his time at Barcelona.

Their impressive win over Napoli on Wednesday, as the European Champions Real Madrid fell to defeat in London led many to suggest City are currently the best team in Europe on form.

Gabriel Jesus, Sergio Aguero, David Silva, Kevin de Bruyne and Raheem Sterling are just a number of players that have shone so far this season at the Etihad.

However, one young man has really started to make a name for himself in the blue of City and stood out in a free flowing football feast that highlighted the promising rise of Leroy Sane.

Sane was only named once in the starting eleven in Manchester City’s first six games this season after a poor showing in pre-season.

The future looked to be a frustrating one as City spent heavily in the summer making it harder for the likes of the young German to get their opportunity to shine.

His patience was rewarded when he starred from the bench in the thumping of Liverpool, scoring twice as City beat Jurgen Klopp’s side 5-0.

Sane has been in incredible form since and is an early front runner for young player of the year.  He stands just one goal away from equalling his tally for last year.

He boasts pace, acceleration, dribbling, assists and knows where the goal is.

He has netted an impressive eight goals this campaign, assisting in six goals for his teammates. The 21-year-old has managed 17 goals from just 38 starts since joining City.

While Kevin de Bruyne continues to take all the accolades he fully deserves as one of the best players in the Premier League, nobody has been involved in more goals in the league this season than Sane.

The youngster is officially the fastest Premier League player since records began after being clocked at an impressive 35.48 km per hour (22.05 miles per hour) during City’s 1-0 win at Chelsea in October.

Guardiola took a massive risk in signing the Schalke winger in 2016 for £37 million yet the youngster in starting to show the move was a shrewd piece of business when you look at the inflation of prices during the summer transfer window just gone.

Marcus Rashford, Anthony Martial, Dele Alli, even Liverpool’s Ben Woodburn have received more hype of their full potential even though Woodburn is more of a regular for his country Wales, than for his club.

Sane’s form this season makes it impossible for people not to sit up and take notice and although he was nominated for the PFA Young Player of the Year last season, he is currently the one to beat for the award this time round should he continue his impressive form.

With a World Cup coming up next summer, Sane will need to continue his impressive form if he is to make it to Russia as part of Joachim Low’s side.

Early indications suggest it will be a successful season for Manchester City and Sane has emerged as a crucial part of that.

Manchester City entertain Arsenal on Sunday. Sane netted home and away against the gunners last season and will be hoping to star once more this weekend.

He is a player you would happily pay to watch.

The future looks bright for the 21-year-old.
